The Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Marathon is donating $10,000 to the Napa County Food Bank, which suffered damage in the August earthquake.
“The Napa food bank warehouse was just about destroyed,” said co-event director and president Richard Benyo in announcing the donation.
Drene Johnson, executive director of Community Action Napa Valley, thanked the marathon for the gift that will “help us to continue to provide services to Napa’s most vulnerable citizens.”
Since the 6.0 temblor on Aug. 24, the demand for food has doubled because so many families lost perishables when the quake knocked out electricity or damaged their refrigerators, the food bank said.
“This is the community that has stood with the Napa Valley Marathon since our founding in 1978, volunteering and welcoming our runners. We live in Napa and we support the community,” said co-event director David Hill.
