The Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Marathon is committed to supporting our local community. Each year, the event contributes approximately $75,000 through scholarships and donations to nonprofits, high schools, sports teams, and service groups. We award sixteen scholarships of up to $1,000 each to high school students who have demonstrated outstanding community involvement, volunteerism, academic achievement, and extracurricular participation. In addition to providing numerous volunteer opportunities, the marathon actively fosters community engagement and service.
Since late 2018, our charitable giving program has expanded to include two special scholarships. The Gard Leighton Memorial Scholarship, valued at $1,000, is awarded annually to a high school senior from one of six local schools who shows exceptional dedication to running and contributes significantly to their team’s success. Recipients are chosen based on nominations from high school running coaches. The Jeff Glathe Memorial Scholarship, also valued at $1,000, supports the ADAPT program at Vintage High School. The use of these funds is flexible and is determined each year according to the specific needs of the students in the program.
